Back up data from your phone and memory card before doing any kind of reset. To perform this please refer to resources below.
    • 2
      Switch on the phone.
    • 3
When it goes on standby mode, press "*#7870#". Make sure you press the "*" key - some people forget this. This triggers a software reset and restores the default factory settings without losing your data. Although this action doesn't remove your personal data it still is a good idea to do back up when performing any kind of reset.

Enter the default code "12345" when requested.
    • 5
HARD RESET NO. 1 - Do this if soft reset procedure above doesn't work.
      Back up data.
    • 6
      Switch on the phone.
    • 7
Press "*#7370#". Again, make sure the "*" is pressed before the "#" key. This also triggers a software reset that involves reformatting the phone. When Nokia E71 is reformatted not all data are lost due to a new feature called UDP - User Data Preservation. You won't know though what will be retained and what will be removed so perform a back up no matter what.
